Shrewley Parish Council Newsletter

Shrewley Parish News  - AGM held on 8th May 2012

PRESENTATION FROM LEN CRESSWELL AND DEAN DAVIES OF THE CANAL AND RIVER TRUST to the May meeting regarding the new charity being set up to manage the UK's waterways.  The Trust will be among the UK's largest charities, with responsibility for 2,000 miles of canals, docks and reservoirs, along with museums, archives and country's third largest collection of protected historic buildings. The new Trust aims to work closely with local communities and volunteers to assist in the running, maintenance and promotion of the waterways.

Cllrs Wesbury and Tilley unanimously re-elected as Chairman and Vice Chairman of Shrewley Parish Council.

Council Vacancy - Cllr Will Morley-Brown, of Hatton Station, was unanimously voted, and welcomed, on to the Parish Council.

Access to towpath flooding - right of Shrewley Village Stores.  Cllr Tilley to liaise with British Waterways to expedite necessary works to prevent further flooding.

Common Land Shaws Lane A request had been received to buy part of the small area of common land on the corner of Shaws Lane and Five Ways Road.  The Parish Council was not averse to considering this.  It was however felt that it would not be practicable to sell part of the land. It would need to be all or nothing. Chairman and clerk are to progress by establishing legal processes which would need to be followed.

Shrewley Neighbourhood Watch Following the Annual Assembly volunteers had come forward and there was now a Chairman and a number of co-ordinators.  There were three for Shrewley Common, one for Case Lane/Five Ways and one for Little Shrewley.  A further TWO coordinators to cover the eastern part of Shrewley Common and Five Ways Road are needed. PCSO Coleman will now set up a meeting to get things started. It is hoped that this new scheme will be well supported.

Parish Plan  The final version of the questionnaire was circulated.  This will printed and distributed to all residents in the Parish on 2nd June with a view to having them returned or collected by 30th June.  It will also be possible to complete the survey on-line.

Canal Signage Hatton Country World has now placed the order for the signs.  Awaiting completion and delivery to Canal Workshops for maintenance team to erect them at Dark Lane and Station Road bridges.

VAS Shrewley Common - Cllr Compton had secured the balance of the funding required.  There was some uncertainty about the upfront maintenance and running costs.  Cllrs Lawrie and Winnett to contact County Council representatives to arrange a meeting to clarify and progress.

Planning Considerable concern was expressed regarding the District Council notification that with

effect from 1st June 2012 all planning consultation would be done electronically.  It was felt that this would cascade costs down to the Parish Council and make it far more difficult for those without internet access (both members of the public and Parish Councillors) to comment or participate in planning consultation.   The Clerk was requested to write to the District to advise that Shrewley PC wished to continue to receive paper copies.

Next Parish Council meetings:  Dates for the year ahead: -  Monday 2nd July, Monday 3rd September and Tuesday 6th November 2012

Meetings start at 7.30pm and are held in the Village Hall. Members of the public are welcome to attend.
